Makes you different

Surely all the men who have seen My glory and My [miraculous] signs which I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have put Me to the test these ten times and have not listened to My voice, will by no means see the land which I swore to [give to] their fathers; nor will any who treated me disrespectfully and rejected Me see it.  But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land into which he entered, and his descendants shall take possession of it. Numbers 14:22-24

The spirit which possessed and prompted Caleb was no doubt the Holy Spirit, just as the spirit which moved the rebellion was an evil spirit (Ephesians 2:2). – Pulpit Commentary

He saw the land as the possession of God’s people. He saw Hebron as his inheritance. The ten saw in the natural. Caleb saw in the Spirit. He had a vision of God. – Hullah

Caleb had another spirit – not only a bold, generous, courageous, noble, and heroic spirit; but the Spirit and influence of the God of heaven thus raised him above human inquietudes and earthly fears, therefore be followed God fully; אחרי וימלא vaimalle acharai, literally, he filled after me: God showed him the way he was to take, and the line of conduct he was to pursue, and he filled up this line, and in all things followed the will of his Maker. He therefore shall see the promised land, and his seed shall possess it. A dastardly spirit in the things of God is a heavy curse. How many are retarded in their course, and fall short of the blessings of the Gospel, through magnifying the number and strength of their adversaries, their own weakness and the difficulties of the way, with which we may connect their distrust of the power, faithfulness, and goodness of God! And how many are prevented from receiving the higher degrees of salvation by foolishly attributing insurmountable power, either to their inward corruptions or outward enemies! Only such men as Joshua and Caleb, who take God at his word, and who know that against his wisdom no cunning can stand, and against his might no strength can prevail, are likely to follow God fully, and receive the heights, lengths, breadths, and depths of the salvation of God. – Adam Clarke’s Commentary

God said, he “followed Me fully.” This is the secret and should be the goal of every one of us, to follow God fully, to follow completely, without a divided heart or bad attitude. Following the Lord cheerfully, consistently, without murmuring, and without arguing with Him is no small thing. If we would follow God fully, we must also have a different spirit, one different from the spirit of the world and from our own natural spirit. We need the Spirit of God directing and guiding our lives. We need the Spirit of God energizing and empowering our attitudes and outlooks each and every day. – Rea
