O love the Lord, all you His godly ones!
The Lord preserves the faithful [those with moral and spiritual integrity]
And fully repays the [self-righteousness of the] arrogant.
Be strong and let your hearts take courage,
All you who wait for and confidently expect the Lord. – Psalm 31:23-24
Earnestly persuade all who bear the name of Christians to become lovers of God. There are but few that love God: many give Him hypocritical kisses, but few love Him. It is not so easy to love God as most imagine. All the strength in men or angels cannot make the heart love God. Ordinances will not do it of themselves, nor judgments; it is only the almighty and invincible power of the Spirit of God can infuse love into the soul. – Thomas Watson
God is spiritual and infinite, and has no existential need of the finite universe. But He made all things – for us, for our benefit, that we might come to seek Him, to know Him, to choose to follow Him, and to love Him, for He first loved us.
We’re promised a crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. This is a critical doctrine throughout Scripture. Very few people explore what it means to love God, but this is a crucial doctrine, crucial to every aspect, every relationship that we have. If you do not understand the doctrine of the believer’s personal love for God the Father, if you do not assimilate that into your soul and apply that, then you will never be successful in any of your human relationships because this is a foundational doctrine. It is the basis for all motivation in the adult spiritual life. – Dean Bible Ministries
