The seal and the guarantee

In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, and [as a result] believed in Him, were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God].  The Spirit is the[e]guarantee [the first installment, the pledge, a foretaste] of our inheritance until the redemption of God’s own [purchased] possession [His believers], to the praise of His glory. – Ephesians 1:13-14

God’s purpose is accomplished by the gospel, it is to offer everyone who was ever born in the world another birth, the born-again experience (spiritual) to become a member of His family. This is done, by the Holy Spirit.

It is the “Word of truth”—not cunningly devised fables or illusory dreams of men; for it comes from the God of truth, it has Christ the Truth for its substance, and the Spirit of truth applies it by imparting a true spiritual discernment of its meaning. – Precept Austin

When a person becomes a Christian, the Holy Spirit takes up residence in his life. Life in Jesus Christ is different because the Spirit of God is now within. He is there to empower us, equip us for ministry, and function through the gifts He has given us. The Holy Spirit is our Helper and Advocate. He protects and encourages us. He also guarantees our inheritance in Jesus Christ. The Spirit of God is our securing force, our guarantee. – John MacArthur

The Holy Spirit is the seal for the Christian. The Holy Spirit in him is a proof to himself of his faith. It also shows other people how real his faith is. The Holy Spirit makes the Christian certain that he has salvation. This seal also keeps the Christian safe. No one can break the seal. No one can break into his life. In the end, he will be safe with Jesus. – Les Painter

The word earnest or guarantee in the Greek is the word arrabon which means money or pledge or first down payment of the Spirit of our inheritance until the fullness of our redemption is complete. – Joe Funaro

Now it is God who establishes and confirms us [in joint fellowship] with you in Christ, and who has anointed us [empowering us with the gifts of the Spirit];  it is He who has also put His seal on us [that is, He has appropriated us and certified us as His] and has given us the [Holy] Spirit in our hearts as a pledge [like a security deposit to guarantee the fulfillment of His promise of eternal life]. – 2 Corinthians 1:21-22

Do you accept that because you believe in Jesus and his resurrection, that you have God’s Holy Spirit, dwelling within you!? Because you do. The enemy will try to keep you feeling ashamed, guilty, fearful, anxious, depressed and so on. But guess what!? If you believe in Jesus, those feelings (that the enemy tries to keep you trapped in) are just feelings. You are a child of God, a new creation, set apart, adopted into the kingdom of Heaven. – Maggie Rickert
